Business Coaching and The Importance of a Small Business Vision

I was talking to a small business owner about his business in this current financial situation a few months ago.

As I usually talk to business owners, I asked them, "How is business?"

"Oh, OK, I think", he answered.

I could hear the defeat in his voice, so I asked some more questions which could help me to know what his current struggles could be.

He has done his business for almost 2 years and is still doing ... some really good months and some really bad months he told me ... mostly bad.

As a curious Denver Business Coach, I asked, "Well, what is your vision for your company"?

He told me that his vision was to pay bills and to keep his business alive.

well guess what? He is what he was getting.

Many people talk to me thinking that a vision for a business is something that only large corporations do. However, large corporations do this, they do it because it works!

If it works for big companies, then why would not it even work for small business?

A small business vision helps build a road map for the business owner. Think of growing your business like taking a trip. You will need to know the destination, or it will take a lot of time to get there.

In life, you concentrate on what you create in the business. Therefore, the business owner I talked about was focusing on paying bills and maintaining their business ... this was his vision for his company. As a result, he was making a business that was making it.

In business, you are either moving or shrinking. There is no status quo. Having a clear vision is the first step of development. Not being a vision, the first step to be lost.
